I didn’t even know this was a thing — but I am completely unsurprised that this appears to arise in the context of MRA talking points about the Epidemic of Abusive Women, How Dare You Say That Men Are Violent. 🙄

Thanks for breaking this down. I always thought the claim sounded off; not that women can't be violent but it's going to be at a lower level than men. I also wondered if it was a reporting issue, with some groups having a broader definition of "violence" or "abuse".

This is a great point. I didn’t get into it here, but as you can guess, male violence is more physically harmful and deadly. Lesbians are more likely to report things like psychological aggression, or physical aggression that (while completely unacceptable) didn’t cause injury.
